Student Intern Program
The Kansas City Chapter of Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) sponsors eight week internships for qualified students with some of Kansas City’s premier companies. Our goal is to match top students with top employers, offering students a rich learning experience through practical application. Since 1997, Kansas City RIMS is proud to have sponsored several interns from schools such as: Kansas State University, University of Kansas, University of Missouri, University of Central Missouri, Missouri State University, and Oklahoma State University. Area employers who have employed interns in the past include: American Century, Ameristar Casinos, AON, Marsh, Black & Veatch, Cerner Corporation, Chubb, Hallmark Cards, H&R Block, Lockton Companies, Seaboard, Westar, Poole Consulting Services and American Safety Management.
Over the years, the student internship committee has received very positive feedback from employers on the quality of the students involved. These are highly motivated students who are considering a career commitment to the risk management profession and are anxious to gain hands-on experience.
The links to the left include a general information sheet and employer application form. We recommend employer applicants have specific and meaningful projects relevant to the risk management profession that will fill an eight-week employment period.
Student interns will be matched with employers on the basis of information submitted in applications by each. A representative of each employer applicant will sit on the selection committee to facilitate the selection process. KC RIMS may fund additional scholarships for these interns upon their successful completion of their internship.
