Student Intern Program

Since 1997 the KC Chapter has used some proceeds for the Spencer Golf Tournament to fund student internships for Risk Management and Insurance, Industrial Safety and Fire Protection Engineering students. Student applicants come from Missouri State University, the University of Central Missouri, University of Missouri, University of Kansas, Kansas State,  and Oklahoma State University. Internship grants are available only to members and associate members of the Greater Kansas City Chapter of RIMS. In recent years, students from these schools were placed with American Century, Ameristar Casinos, H&R Block, Marsh, Aon, Cerner and Poole Consulting.

Over the years, the student internship committee has received very positive feedback from employers on the quality of the students involved. These are highly motivated students who have made a career commitment to the risk management profession and are anxious to gain hands on experience completing those relevant projects that you do not have time or staff to complete.

In the links at left are a general information sheet and employer application form. We recommend employer applicants have specific and meaningful projects relevant to one of the above disciplines that will fill an 8 week employment period. Multiple projects of smaller duration that fill an 8 week period in the aggregate are acceptable.

Student interns will be matched with employers on the basis of information submitted in applications by each. A representative of each employer applicant will sit on the selection committee to facilitate the selection process. KC RIMS will fund additional 2010 summer internships with $1,000 grants from proceeds of the Spencer Foundation Golf Tournament held this fall.

This is an excellent opportunity to have those special projects you have been putting off for lack of time or resource completed by an energetic and highly motivated Risk Management and Insurance, Safety Science or Fire Protection student.
